GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING (GATE)
Applicable for: Engineering, technology and architecture graduates who wish to do a postgraduation at IIT
Date of exam: Jan 20 (online), 10 Feb (offline)

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree holders in engineering/technology/ architecture or those in the final or penultimate year of such programmes; master’s degree holders in any branch of science/mathematics/statistics/computer applications or equivalent or those in the final or penultimate year of such programmes; those with qualifications equivalent to BE/BTech.

COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES (CDS) EXAMINATION
Applicable for: Unmarried graduates who wish to train at Indian Military Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, Naval Academy or Air Force Academy
Date of exam: February 17, September 8 (conducted biannually)
Last date for registration: December 12, 2012 (for February); June 26, 2013 (for September)
Eligibility: For Indian Military Academy/Officers’ Training
Academy – degree from a recognized university or equivalent; for Naval Academy – BSc with physics and maths or BE; for Air Force Academy – BE or degree from a recognised university with physics and maths at 10+2 level

AIMS TEST FOR MANAGEMENT ADMISSIONS (ATMA)
Applicable for: Admissions to postgraduate programmes in management offered by various institutes
Date of exam: February 17, May 26, August 4 (conducted tri-annually)

Applicable for: Prospective postgraduate management students to AICTE approved institutes
Date of exam: February 21 to February 25

INDIAN SCIENCE ENGINEERING ELIGIBILITY TEST (ISEET)
Applicable for: Prospective undergraduates to IIT, NIT and other central government-funded technical institutes; has two components – JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) Main and JEE Advanced
Date of exam: April 7 (JEE Main, offline), April 8-30 (JEE Main, online), June 2 (JEE Advanced)
Last date for registration: December 15, 2012
Eligibility: Those who have passed or are in the final year of 10+2 (class XII) or its equivalent can take the Main exam. Top-scoring candidates of Main are eligible for Advanced (meant for IIT admissions only)

NATIONAL AND NAVAL ACADEMY (NDA AND NA) EXAMINATION
Applicable for: Prospective undergraduates who wish to serve in the Indian army, navy or air force
Date of exam: April 7, August 11 (conducted bi-annually)
Last date of registration: January 21, 2013 (for April); June 3, 2013 (for August)
Eligibility: Must be between 16 ½ and 19 years old; for Army wing of NDA – those who have passed 10+2 (class XII) or its equivalent; for Air Force and Naval wings of NDA and for 10+2 Executive Branch Course at NA – those who have passed 10+2 (class XII) or its equivalent with physics and maths

CIVIL SERVICES (PRELIMINARY) EXAM, 2013

Applicable for: IAS, IPS, IFS, Group ‘A’ and some Group ‘B’ services’ aspirants
Date of exam: May 19
Last date for registration: March 4
Eligibility: Indian citizenship for IAS, Indian citizenship or subject of Nepal/Bhutan/Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962 with permanent settling intentions for IFS, between 21–30 years, graduate or candidate in final year of bachelor’s degree, candidate who has passed any medical examination but not completed internship by the time of application submission.

CLAT COMMON LAW ADMISSION TEST

Applicable for: Students aspiring admissions to their undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes LLB & LLM
Date of exam: Tentatively second week of May
Last date for registration: Tentatively in March
Eligibility: Senior Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent qualification from a recognised board with not less than 50% marks in aggregate, candidates , age not more than 20 years in case of General/OBC (22 years in case of SC/ST and PWD), passed the qualifying exam at the time of admission and be able to submit its proof.

LAW SCHOOL ADMISSION TEST (LSAT), INDIA

Applicable for: Students aspiring admissions to law schools in India

ENGINEERING SERVICES EXAMINATION, 2013

Applicable for: Aspirants looking for engineering services/posts in various government departments
Date of exam: June 28
Last date for registration: April 15
Eligibility: Indian citizenship or subject of Nepal/Bhutan/Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962 with permanent settling intentions, age between 21 and not attained 30, Engineering degree/diploma or passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) or M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject.

COMPANY SECRETARY (CS) EXAM FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

Applicable for: Aspirants seeking admission to various programmes in Institute of Company Secretary of India (ICSI)
Date of exam: Held twice in a year in the months of June and December (exact dates to be announced)
Last date for registration: March 25 for June examination. September 25 for December examination
Eligibility: Senior Secondary/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent qualification from a recognised board is sufficient to apply for the Foundation Programme.

UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION RECRUITMENT TEST (UPSC RT)

Applicable for: Those wishing to be recruited by the government in a public service capacity

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline/related to the post applying to; must be between 21 and 30 years old

Applicable for: Students who wish to study for a bachelor’s degree in USA

Eligibility: No criteria; can be taken during class XI or even after the XII boards

RECURRING EXAMS

GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATIONS (GRE)

Applicable for: Aspirants seeking admission for graduate schools in the United States, other English-speaking countries and for English-taught graduate and business programmes
Date of exam: The exam dates depend upon the chosen exam centre..The GRE revised General Test is available at about 700 test centres in more than 160 countries. The computer-based test is available on a continuous basis throughout the year. The paper-based format up to three times a year in October, November and February
*GRE Subject Tests are given at paper-based test centers worldwide three times a year, in:
• October
• November
• April
Eligibility: One can take the GRE revised General Test (computer-based and paper-based) only once every 30 days, and no more than five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken. The Standard test administration fee for the GRE revised General Test, worldwide, is US$175

TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL)

Applicable for: Aspirants seeking to study in an Englishspeaking country, or for students and workers applying for visas (measures ability to use and understand English at the university level)
Date of exam: Dates depend upon the chosen exam centre. The TOEFL is held 30 to 40 times a year and has 4,500 test centres across 165 countries
Eligibility: The cost of the test can range from US$160 to US$250 and varies between exam locations

INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS): GENERAL TRAINING VERSION

Applicable for: Candidates planning to undertake nonacademic training, or wishing to gain work experience, or for wish to immigrate to certain Commonwealths
Date of exam: Dates depend on the chosen exam centre. The test is taken in more than 800 centres and locations in over 130 countries
*The General Training version is available on 24 dates
Eligibility: IELTS has a fee for its test that has to be paid when one submits the IELTS Application Test. The fee would vary as per test location

GRADUATE MANAGEMENT ADMISSION TEST (GMAT)
Applicable for: Aspirants seeking to pursue an MBA programmes
Date of exam: Available year long and on demand. An appointment must be made at one of the designated test centres
Eligibility: If a below 18 years candidate wants to write the test, he has to send a written form to ‘GMAT Customer Services’ of his region signed by parents or guardian. The GMAT may not be taken more than once within 31 days, even if the scores are cancelled. US$ 250 worldwide fee plus taxes

INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS): ACADEMIC VERSION
Applicable for: Aspirants who want to enroll in institutions of higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practise in an English-speaking country
Date of exam: The exam dates depend upon the chosen exam centre. The test is taken in more than 800 centres and locations in over 130 countries
*The Academic version of the test is available on 48 dates in the year. Each test centre offers tests up to four times a month depending on local demand
Eligibility: IELTS has a fee for its test that has to be paid when one submits the IELTS Application Test. The fee would vary as per test location
