If you’ve ever pictured yourself unscrewing an electronic equipment, or wondered about the workings of an electricity generator on a scorching summer afternoon, then Electrical Engineering might be your cup of tea!
Electrical aka Electronic engineering is pretty much what it sounds like. An electrical engineer works with anything that is electronic in nature. This profession may involve solving problems using a computer-software or sketching by hand. To put it simply, an electric engineer may be responsible for the working of the motherboard of a computer or any other circuit system, for that matter. On a larger scale, he/she may be involved in satellite communications or an offshore electric power station. A steady grasp of concepts such as electronics and electromagnetism is of utmost importance to an electrical engineer.
Initially an Electrical engineer may be involved in actual designing and working of circuits, producing a prototype, testing it, fixing the bugs, verification, approval and installation. As you climb up the ladder, it is also possible to graduate to new job profiles such as Research and Development, Supervision, Project Management and Finance.
WHAT YOU NEED
In India, having completed 10+2 from any board with at least 40% will suffice. For the IITs, you will have to give the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE Mains and Advance). Regardless of these entrance exams, it is important to keep in mind that a certain percentage of the board marks is also considered while taking into account the total score of the student.
