Common Grammar mistakes Indians make

Grammar mistakes are inevitable. You might be an infallible grammarian but the learning doesn’t end! There are a few common grammatical mistakes most of us tend to make, time and again. Here are seven mistakes most of us are guilty of making:

Sentence fragments

Incorrect: He called his friend for the party after the argument. In spite of everything

Correct: In spite of everything, he called his friend for the party after the argument

Missing coma after the introductory element

Incorrect: In case you haven’t noticed my name hasn’t appeared on the ranking list

Correct: In case you haven’t noticed, my name hasn’t appeared on the ranking list

Misusing the apostrophe with “It’s”

Incorrect: I don’t believe its finally time to leave

Correct: I don’t believe it’s finally time to leave

No comma in a Compound Sentence

Incorrect: The girl jumped into the truck and fled away before she was noticed

Correct: The girl jumped into the truck, and fled away before she was noticed

Vague Pronoun Reference

Incorrect: When Rita met her sister, she was so happy

Correct: Rita was so happy when she met her sister

Wrong word usage

Incorrect: She excepted the job offered to her

Correct: She accepted the job offered to her

Superfluous Commas

Incorrect: The women never went out at night, because they felt unsafe

Correct: The women never went out at night because they felt unsafe
