CBSE looks to provide existing teachers with recognition and encourage more people to enter the teaching field by easing rules of application for the Teacher’s Award 2018. Moreover, the Board has also increased the number of awards from 34 to 48.
CBSE has also centralised the entire process for more transparency. Earlier, this process was taken up by the regional offices. The Teacher’s Award was started in the year 2000. This award seeks to recognise outstanding teachers in the field. This award is given out every year on September 5th , which regarded as Teacher’s Day in India.
The award consists of a merit certificate, a shawl and Rs. 50,000 cash prize. The teachers must have at least ten years of experience in a CBSE school to apply for the award. There are five awards for principals. Newly introduced ten awards for special educators, counsellors, performing arts instructors, physical education teachers etc. will also be given.
The teachers once short-listed will be screened by the National Level Screening Committee at the CBSE headquarters. There are numerous criteria which will be assessed including academic qualifications, the effectiveness of teaching, face-to-face interaction, two 30-minute videographed classroom lessons etc.
Teachers can apply at www.cbse.nic.in. The last date to apply for the award is July 13th. These teachers will later be shortlisted by Jul 14th and they’ll be able to upload the relevant documents during the next two days.
This is a huge boost to teachers who want to be recognised as the country is generally criticised for not supporting its teachers enough. The lack of solid educators is also blamed on the system not being too rewarding towards teachers.
These awards might make teachers more positive about their approach to teaching and may actually be a step towards effective and quality teaching. After all, it is time we realise the importance of teachers in society as without them, the future of our country would be questionable.
