Environment lovers have peculiar traits that none others have, like befriending trees and plants, and also conversing with them, or shedding tears when a plant dies or burning with rage when they come across news like trees being fell to construct a bridge or a factory. Besides, horrific news like that of bushfires taking place cause environment lovers immense distress. These are people who not only express their grief but also act on it. 

Most often than not, environment lovers are enrolled with NGOs or other institutions that work towards protecting the environment. If you are one of those people and want to an even bigger step in helping nature breathe freely, you can consider taking up a full-time profession that will help you do so.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

With the increased number of factories and industries across the globe, pollution has soared higher than ever. To keep a check on this and ensure that pollution levels come down, there are environmental engineers in place.

What do they do? 

An environmental engineer works toward protecting the environment by adopting scientific ways to reduce pollution of any form. They don’t just reduce pollution, but also work towards improving the existing environmental conditions through remediation. They are in charge of designing technologies and processes that can help in controlling pollution and clean up existing contamination. An environmental engineer works on areas involving but not restricting to waste treatment, soil fertility, wastewater treatment, site remediation, or pollution control technology.

Educational Qualification required:  

A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or a related field like civil, chemical, or general engineering will be required to pursue environmental engineering. 

ENVIRONMENTAL LAWYER

As an environmental lawyer, you will be able to pull those, responsible for causing damage to the environment, into the court. 

What do they do? 

Environmental lawyers deal with all legal matters related to the environment. They help organizations, NGOs, governments, and even individuals to resolve/fight conflicts for the benefit of the environment. They deal with environmental issues that involve water and air quality maintenance, hazardous waste, species protection, agriculture, wetlands, biodiversity, waste management, sustainability strategies, alternative energy sources, destroying forest land for industrial purposes, and many more. 

Educational Qualification required: 

You will have to clear the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) to pursue a Bachelor of Law (LLB). After LLB, you can and must also pursue a Master’s of Environmental Law. Though not mandatory, it will increase your chances of becoming an Environmental Lawyer.

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION TECHNICIAN

An environment protection technician plays the role of an inspector who monitors the environment.

What do they do? 

Environment Protection Technicians are public health officials who investigate sources of pollution and take steps to prevent or stop violations. They inspect and keep an eye on big corporations and companies to make sure they don’t violate any environmental policy or undertake activities that can cause harm to nature.  The technicians are mostly hired by the state or central governments, science laboratories, or bodies working towards protecting the environment. 

Educational Qualification required: 

Usually, an associate’s degree is required in environmental science, environmental health, or public health, or any other related degree. One must also have a strong background in natural sciences. You must have studied chemistry, biology, geology, and physics. You must also have sound knowledge in subjects like math, statistics, and computer science as technicians are expected to routinely formulate data analysis and modeling.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT & URBAN PLANNER

An architect that builds beautiful spaces keeping in mind the well being of the environment. 

What do they do? 

A Landscape Architect plans and designs spaces, mostly public, which are environment friendly. Few examples of the same would be, creating residences, parks, shopping centers, school campuses, golf courses, etc which not just make the place look aesthetic but let the environment breathe. An Urban or Regional Planner provides aid to the governments in deciding to make the best use of land owned by them in an environment-friendly manner. Their job also includes planning and executing programs along with government officials, the public, and developers.

Educational Qualification required: 

To become a Landscape Architect, one requires a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Landscape Design, or one can pursue also pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture followed by a master’s in Landscape Architecture. An Urban Planner will need to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and a Master’s in Urban Planning as well.
