Calling all students to the School of Speed

PUMA announce all-India athletic competition for school students

In an effort to peel India’s youth away from computer and television screens and encourage them to experience the bright outdoors with all their athletic exuberance, PUMA has announced its flagship relay running competition School of Speed. The race will be held in Mumbai , Delhi and Bangalore.

The contest will be a relay race for children in the age group 13-16. Each team will consist of 4 runners who will represent their respective school to compete for the title of fastest school. Each team member will run 1 kilometer with each team completing a total of 4 kilometers which is the course of every race. Teams have been categorised into two age groups – juniors from grades 7 and 8 grade and seniors from grades 9 and 10 for both boys and girls. A total of 250 teams are expected to participate in each city the race will be held.

Speaking on behalf of the organising team, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh said, “As a child I was always active, playing cricket, running or cycling. But today’s generation prefer gaming to playing real games, through School of Speed we want them to discover the simple joy of running. Through School of Speed we want to further inspire children to take up running or any sport at a grass root level”.

The contest will end with the awarding of the fastest school in each city as well as the fastest city in India. The national winners in both categories of senior boys and girls will get a chance to meet the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt.

The first edition will be held in Mumbai on 9 February at the MMRDA Grounds. The next edition is slated for 15 February in Delhi at the JNU Campus. The date and location for the Bangalore leg of the competition are yet to be announced.

Schools from boards IB, CBSE and ISC are invited to participate. Registration to the competition is available on the official website www.schoolofspeed.in.
