NIU to Participate in 2012 Indian Initiative
The Institute of International Education has selected Northern Illinois University (NIU) together with ten other universities to participate in the 2012 Indian Initiative.The goal of this programme is to increase higher education connections between US and Indian institutions. NIU will receive professional guidance on developing relationships in India as well as a mentor on educational cooperation from the advisory board of the programme. NIU will also take part in webinars with other experts and schools from India. An NIU representative is scheduled to participate in a study tour of India in January 2012. This move is likely to see an easy migration for international students both for current NIU students going overseas to work or study as well as for international students coming to NIU to study.

Design contest for Indian literature series hosted by Harvard
Harvard University Press is inviting design submissions for the Murty Classical Library of India, a publication series, slated to launch in 2013 and featuring classical Indian literature. The winner who designs the best logo, logotype and jacket design will receive a prize of $10, 000 as well as jacket credit on all the books in the series. The series will provide English language translations of works written in Hindi, Pali, Bangla, Punjabi, Persian, Sanskrit, Tamil and other Indic languages. Design firms or individuals based in India, the US and the UK are eligible to enter this contest and entries can be submitted till December 1, 2011.

Mumbai University plans to offer Msc in finance
The Mumbai University (MU)is planning to offer a Master of Science in Finance programme. The course, which will be a first of its’ kind in India, aims to be of international standards on the lines of Harvard and Cambridge. This course will be designed to consider the market needs, keeping in mind that Mumbai is the financial capital of India. Thus, there is expected to be a huge participation from the finance industry in setting up and conducting this course. However, the course structure and syllabus are yet to be decided by the finance industry and related authorities. Any student who has studied math up to graduation will be eligible for this programme. MU will take the entire responsibility for this two-year course.

Campus Explorer Website to assist students with college admissions in India
CampusExplorer.in has gone live and aims to assist students trying to make an informed decision while choosing different colleges in India. Students will be able to explore colleges listed state-wise or major-wise in a user-friendly way. The team has set up micro sites for over 12, 000 Indian colleges, each of which offers in-depth information about the respective college. The site also provides an option to compare different Indian colleges side by side and a method to instantly apply to any college in India by visiting the respective college’s micro site.
