The Dental Council of India (DCI) has restored its one-year internship for those studying for the five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery course. The internship was  abruptly dropped by the DCI in 2007. All Indian states had complied except for Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Kerala as these three states generally don’t employ BDS candidates who have not completed an internship in government dental clinics and hospitals. Now, once again, as part of the internship, BDS students will also have to work in rural areas, slums or on the outskirts of the city for three months out of  intership’s 12 month duration. The main motive of restoring the internship is to make sure that BDS students gain ample practical experience in the field of dentistry.
