Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has approved the construction of two universities in the state in a cabinet led on Friday.
“In order to provide quality education to the youth of Andhra Pradesh, the Cabinet has approved two new universities in the state – Gurazada Apparao University in Vizianagaram and JNTU Amravati University in Amravati,” said Minister for Housing Kalava Srinivasulu when asked about the cabinet meeting.
Additionally, the Cabinet also approved minimizing the time for contract employees and contract lecturers hired at Andhra Pradesh residential schools and universities. There are also around 98 candidates shortlisted for the Andhra Pradesh District Selection Committee pending their appointments, that will be confirmed after the finalization of the list with the minimum time scale.
The Cabinet also approved the payment of salaries to employees of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and Greater Vishakapatnam Municipal Corporation under the 010 account. 20 percent interim relief will now be given to employees from June 1st 2019.
The state government has decided to release Rs. 250 crore for depositors who deposited less than Rs. 10,000 with AgriGold, who are at the centre of a scam involving seven lakh depositors. The amount will be given to the scam victims in Andhra Pradesh.
Other initiatives taken by the Andhra Pradesh government include the transformation of Eluru City in the state, into a smart city. 31 primary health care centres and hospitals will be upgraded in the state for which Rs. 255 crores has been earmarked. 7.64 acres of land at Sunnipenta will be distributed for the construction of houses, as well as for the construction of a government medical college in Vizianagaram.
