New Semiconductor Design And Manufacturing Courses Launched By AICTE

From smartphones to aeroplanes, semiconductors have evolved to improve technologies and do wonders for our entertainment and convenience. Before the popular silicon-based chips came to be, computers were big machines made of tubes and dials. They were impressive but fragile, not to mention a liability because of the amount of electricity they needed. Semiconductor chips replaced the tubes, managing machines faster, cheaper, and more efficiently. Advances in design and size led us to light and sleek modern phones and smart equipment in a range of industries.

Machines great and small rely on semiconductor chips. Industries like computing, telecommunication, household appliances, banking, healthcare, security, transportation, and manufacturing rely on semiconductor chips the most.

The “SemiconIndia” programme was introduced by Prime Minister Modi in January 2020 with the goal of producing 85,000 semiconductor professionals in India over the next ten years, because of the growing need not only in the country but also globally.

With this initiative in mind, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) recently launched two new courses: a Diploma in Integrated Circuit (IC) Manufacturing and BTech or BE (electronics) in Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) Design and Technology.

These two programs have been introduced in order to create a potential for semiconductor talent throughout the engineering ecosystem. Any AICTE-affiliated college/university/technical institute can opt to offer these courses.

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “In more ways than we can imagine, semiconductors are playing a crucial role in the globe,”

“Our shared goal is to make India one of the important players in the global supply chains for semiconductors. We are making significant investments in preparing young Indians for the demands of the 21st century. Up to 20% of the semiconductor design engineers in the world come from our superior talent pool for semiconductor design. Nearly all of the top 25 semiconductor design companies are based here in the United States.”
