Ravi Shankar Prasad, the telecom minister recently said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will begin trial for 5G in 100 days. The auction for the 5G spectrum will be held in 2019 according to the government’s call. Reliance Jio is been said to be backing the rates and timings of the auction. The Vodafone-Idea CEO termed the current 5G base price as “exorbitant”. A source close to Jio said to the Economic Times, “The prices have been decided after much deliberation by the sector regulator and if a telephone company (telco) needs the spectrum, then it will bid for it during the auction irrespective of the costs.”

You will require a smartphone which supports 5G connectivity to have access to it. Huawei and Samsung have already launched phones that support 5G in other parts of the world but are yet to be launched in India. Companies like Xiaomi and Oneplus have showcased their phones but are yet to be launched.
