Mexico is the ideal place to visit ancient ruins, museums, award-winning restaurants, and beautiful Mexican beaches. You can climb stunning mountains and volcanoes, or relax in a host of stunning resorts in paradise.
The waters are beautiful, the sands stretch as far as the eye can see, and the sea life is abundant. Let’s take a look at some of the best beach destinations for a breathtaking Mexican beach break.
One of the most renowned coastlines in Mexico is that of southern Oaxaca state. It features serene, sandy beaches facing the Pacific Ocean, and roaring turquoise waves. One of the best beaches in the state of Oaxaca is to be found in Mazunte’s quirky beachside town and is appropriately named Playa Mazunte. With parasols available all day long to hire on the cheap beach vendors along with cold beers and food on hand, you’ll never want to leave.
Playa Paraíso, in Tulum, literally called ‘ Paradise Beach, ‘ is one of the country’s best beaches, almost unrivalled in elegance and ecological diversity. This beautiful beach picture sits beneath an elegant, classic ruin of archaeology. The turquoise waters and the white sands reach as far as the eye can see, and while it is relatively well known, travellers never overwhelm it. Instead, in hammocks, there will be informal yoga sessions and topless sunbathers.
Playa Las Gatas is a somewhat overlooked beach in Zihuatanejo. This beach neighbours the arguably more famous Playa la Ropa, allegedly named for the abundance of cat-whiskered nurse sharks which used to dwell in this area. It boasts bright, calm waters nowadays and despite the presence of rocky coves and coral. It’s a great, snorkelling location. Sea urchins are hiding on the seabed, though, so keep an eye out.
Isla Holbox is a newly uncovered island in the state of Quintana Roo.
Despite having many beaches, its small size merits its inclusion as a single entity here. The location is renowned for its unrivalled presence of whale sharks; it is now gaining popularity in the traveller community for its serene diving environment, shallow waters, and pristine beaches that are somewhat deserted.
Go there early to get a real feel for Holbox, or the visitors will arrive massively and sell it all.
The long and easily accessible Isla Mujeres is another excellent Quintana Roo island for beach finds. Notably more touristy than Holbox, this small island has a wide variety of beach bars, lodgings, and restaurants.
Nevertheless, the breathtaking Playa Norte is unquestionably the number one draw.
Crystal clear waters, and close enough soft, powdery sand make this one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico.
Bahia Balandra is a gorgeous beach resort in La Paz. It is a popular destination amongst holidaymakers.
Bahía Balandra is the Mexican coastline’s serene, shallow water destination, making it ideal for families with children and others who aren’t great at swimming.
Azure toned water is teeming with vibrant tropical fish that can be easily seen with a simple snorkel. Go there early before people start coming to make the most of the vast surroundings.
Playa del Amor is located in the tourist paradise that is Cabo San Lucas, known in English as Lover’s Beach, it also ominously backs onto a beach called Divorce Cove. Who’d have thunk it? Playa del Amor ranks among the top beaches in Mexico and is perhaps the most popular in Cabo San Lucas.
It is situated at the top of this peninsular region right next to the famous rock formation, its a beautifully romantic location. Nonetheless, be vigilant when swimming, and entering the water in the beach area of Bahia de Cabo San Lucas, as the Pacific is much riskier.
Although Playa Los Muertos on the malecón frequently catches a lot of attention, in hot and humid Vallarta, venturing even a little further afield reaps enormous rewards. Go instead to the well-hidden and less frequented beach Punta Negra. Make sure to take your beach umbrella and brush up on your Spanish as the locals mostly enjoy this place and there can be few tourists.
When listing the most breathtaking beaches in Mexico, it wouldn’t be right not to mention one of the most beautiful beaches in Cancun.
Playa Maroma in Cancun is one of the best beaches on the Mayan Riviera.
It is part of the all-inclusive resort of Catalonia. The beach here is an excellent example of the coastal conditions typical of Cancún.
Powder light, fine sand, and crystal clear waters splash softly in the distance, allowing for a sense of serenity and harmony overall.
It’s clear to see that Mexico has some of the best beach breaks, some of the beaches are absolutely breathtaking. It’s a great place for a family vacation or an escape for you and your loved one to the sun. It’s also a great place for summer break.
