Potterheads are going back to Hogwarts this weekend. The original book series came to an end nine years ago in 2007. J.K Rowling is officially out with the eight installation in the series which is set in the original universe which the fans were not exactly expecting. In case you did not know about it, here are the five things you need to know about ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’
The book, which released on July 31, is actually a script coming up with the novel ideas from the author that unfolds in the Potter universe. The script book is divided into Part 1 and Part 2 and will reveal how Harry Potter is been dealing with the life after he defeated Voldemort.
The story is not just about Harry Potter alone. It is also centred around his son Albus. The play will pick up from where J.K Rowling left off, at platform 9¾ where Harry and his wife Ginny Weasley bid adieu to their son Albus as he set off to Hogwarts for his first year. He is joined by Rose Granger-Weasley (Cherrelle Skeete) and Scorpio Malfoy (Anthony Boyle).
Nineteen years after Harry defeated Voldemort, he is just like all an ordinary man who is an overworked government employee. The plot shows how Harry struggles with the pressure of working as an Auror (working like a detective in the Wizarding world). He also has to struggle with parenthood, being the father of three children. His son Albus Severus, named after Professors Dumbledore and Snape is under the pressure to maintain the legacy at Hogwarts which his father left behind.
Most adult characters in the story are familiar barring a few new names in this 8th story. All in all, there are 42 characters in the cast. Talking about the writers, it was not J.K Rowling who worked single-handedly on the project – writer Jack Throne developed the story and writing with Rowling’s help and the director of the play John Tiffany.
Yes, you heard that right. All your favourites are back in the story. The story will also tell us how Ron, Hermione and Draco Malfoy are doing in their lives. The major characters from the series will now have children who will head off to Hogwarts and these characters will be present throughout the play.
