5 Must-Have Home Decor Items To Elevate Your Mood

Remember that time when Katrina Kaif appeared on Koffee With Karan and spoke about feeling dizzy because of the disturbing flooring of the set? Well, she wasn’t being unreasonable. Wrong interior design and decor can definitely be disturbing to the mind. It can also spoil the mood.

This is why interior designers pay attention to minute details to make a space good enough for peaceful living. Even if your living space is excellently designed placing a small vase of loud colour and design can ruin your entire living room’s colour palette. This causes much disturbance to the eye as well as your subconscious mind.

Although it might feel that the decor of a house does not play a huge role in keeping the mood intact, it does! So, having decor material of the right colour and size and in the right place highly influences our mood, feelings, behaviour and physical wellbeing.

Since we spend a maximum of time indoors, especially in our homes, having certain kinds of decor materials go a long way in making us feel positive, calm, at peace, happy and comfortable at home.

Here are a few decor ideas you can bring home to set your mood right :

Curvy Elements

It is believed that adding elements which are curvy or rounded evokes positive thoughts and feelings. Curvy furniture or other decor items like spherical lamps, or photo frames are said to elevate the mood.

Your personal items close to your heart

Yes, decor items like vases or showpieces undoubtedly add to your home’s beauty. What adds more impact and puts the mind in a good mood instantly is when you add a personal touch. Watching photographs of your loved ones hanging on the walls, souvenirs from holidays, items gifted by your friends, favourite art paintings, or something you must or your family member must’ve created in your home could also better your mood.

Atleast one houseplant is a must

Personally, watching a little life grow and bloom each day gives me hope. Besides, a green houseplant is said to help one deal with anxiety and stress. It also refreshes the mind. Further, houseplants also ensure your home has clean air to breathe.

Something blue will go a long way to brush off the blues

As per colour psychology, blue is believed to calm the mind, relax the mood and make one feel pleasant. It also aids in better sleep at night. You can either have your walls painted blue or buy items like bedsheets and pillow covers, table cloth, tissue box, cupboards and cabinets, or even a side table which are blue in colour.

The lighting of the house plays a key role

You must avoid installing harsh coloured lights. Have lights which are soft and float smoothly in your living spaces. Make abundant use of soft yellow lights as dim lights. The more harsh lights you use, the more aggressive your mood will be, and the more soft lights you use, the more peaceful your mood will be.

Besides these, you can also include other decor items like a camphor diffuser or scented candles that put you in a good mood.
