Student’s plea against NIFT fee hike rejected by Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea by some students of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) challenging fee hike, saying it cannot be termed arbitrary or oppressive. The high court said it believed that the plea raised by 4th-year students challenging the fees hike is vague and cannot be accepted. 

Karnataka may get COVID-19 vaccine by early 2021: State Health Minister

Karnataka health minister Dr K Sudhakar expressed confidence that a vaccine for COVID-19 would be available early in 2021 and said the government would ensure that it reaches every nook and corner of the state after its launch.

Hyderabad Airport 1st in India to launch e-boarding for international flyers

Hyderabad International Airport now has contactless e-boarding facilities not just for domestic passengers but also for international flyers. With this, it has become one of the first airports in India to introduce contactless e-boarding for passengers flying out of the country. A Sharjah-bound IndiGo flight was the first to implement the e-boarding system.

India, US ask Pakistan to punish masterminds of 26\11, Uri, Pathankot attacks

In a joint attack on terrorism from Pakistan, India and the US called on Pakistan to act on terrorism and not allow its territory to be used for terrorist attacks. The joint statement issued by both sides after the 2+2 meet in the national capital asked Pakistan to “expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators and planners of all such attacks, including 26/11 Mumbai, Uri, and Pathankot”.

Zoom launches end-to-end encryption for users globally

The video conferencing app Zoom has launched end-to-end encryption for all users globally for meetings with up to 200 participants. Account admins will be able to enable the feature in their web dashboard at the account, group and user level. It can also be locked at the account or group level. 

Delhi CM Kejriwal launches waste-to-power plant at Ghazipur market

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated a 15 tonnes per day waste-to-power plant at Ghazipur poultry market, which will produce electricity through bio-gasification of bio-degradable waste generated from the market. 

“I am glad that the waste-to-power plant is starting today, The waste generated from the mandi will be used to create electricity,” kejriwal said.

Film costume designer who turned daily wage worker in lockdown wins award

Designer Ashok Kumar, who turned daily wage construction worker amid pandemic, has recently won ‘Kerala State Award for Best Costume Designer’ for his work in film Kenjira. He worked in the film industry as a costume designer for 25 years. “The lockdown brought no work (in films) for months.The painting work brought ₹800 to ₹900 a day.” Ashok said.

Google and Facebook have ‘hijacked’ local journalism: US Senator

“Local news outlets have been “hijacked” by large news aggregation platforms like Google and Facebook”. Maria Cantwell said. The US Federal Trade Commission needs new powers to protect the struggling local news industry from unfair competition from large technology companies, a senior lawmaker said.

Studies show pollution contributes to COVID-19 mortality

“There have been studies from Europe and the US, where they have looked at polluted areas and have compared mortality during lockdown and correlation with pollution, and found clearly that pollution is contributing to mortality in Covid-19 cases, that’s well established by studies,” Dr Balram Bhargav said.
